CHAPEL HILL – A group of protesters brought their concerns about fluoride to OWASA’s meeting Thursday, even thought no one was there to listen.
Fluoride Free Chapel Hill/Carrboro members had planned to petition against fluoride at the Orange Water and Sewer Authority’s board of directors meeting. The meeting was canceled Aug. 10 when OWASA staff told the board there wasn’t any reason to meet on Aug. 24.
The fluoride critics showed up anyway to oppose OWASA’s plan to restart fluoridation of Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s drinking water.
The policy is medicating people without their consent and is adding a harmful neurotoxin to the water, the critics said. They cited suspected effects, such as lower intelligence, thyroid and bone damage, arthritic symptoms, cancers and reproductive problems.
Corey Sturmer began researching fluoride after experiencing dental fluorosis: damage to tooth enamel caused by too much fluoride. OWASA has an agenda, he said, and doesn’t want to hear from critics or its their policy.
“Psychologically, people have been hit over the head for 50 years with the idea that this is good for you, so our biggest challenge is getting the people to really recognize how significant this is,” Sturmer said.

After some self reflection I learn the core reason for this approach; I had way too much trust in my city council to rationally, objectively evaluate the evidence which I first presented to them in December 2011. Nearly 3 years later I could have initially never imagined how deep & sinister this policy actually went. When I was summarily dismissed after presenting hardcore evidence that should make even the most dumbed down person agree Public Water Fluoridation violates the Precautionary Principle, my soul was given no choice but to do something. Combined with a total lack of uncompromised media made for fertile breeding grounds for resistance & this spells the basic genesis of DurhamAgainstFluoride.com
Therefore the council continues resting on its illegitimate claim to wisdom, continues buying massive quantities of fluorosilicic acid from MOSAIC fertilizer company, and charges you money to dispose of it in your tap water with or without your consent. In my last report, you journeyed with me through the “Customer Service Hotline” of Durham’s Water Management Department, where I attempted to get a discount on my water bill that would account for the fluoridation chemicals forcefully added to our water since 1957. I figured & I’m sure most red-blooded Americans would agree, that we should not have to pay for medication we never agreed to purchase.
As you may remember, this was a failed attempt insofar as no discount was ever rendered but the discussion was nevertheless successful in exposing the unfortunate reality that the individual in Durham North Carolina is left with absolutely no recourse if he disagrees with the communist-inspired social engineering thrust upon his drinking water, which is medicated against his consent. In typical fashion I was treated like a real hot potato by thepowers that be in Durham before eventually being reminded that, despite my wishes, I would still be forced to pay the same rate for my water even though nobody debated the legality of systematically medicating the water supply or so much as acknowledged the outright violation of our rights.
Left with no recourse, I decided to pursue a different course on this issue and attempted to file a criminal police report with the Durham Police Department, since I have never once met an individual willing to argue that drugging someone else’s water is a legal & lawful thing to do. As you will see, I make a quick transformation from an enthusiastic mid-twenty something into a veritable turd subsequently passed from one governmental intestinal tract to another.
It is clear from the onset that this is an issue nobody in our government is either knowledgeable about or has any authority to change, which also happens to be a leitmotif of this effort since its early beginnings in 2011. Listen! and you will hear me being passed from supervisor to supervisor, in a familiar methodology which inevitably leads me to a kind but ignorant Durham Police Officer who sums up the City’s stance on fluoridation perfectly when I pose the simple question:
“What will happen to the police report after it is filed?”
Officer Smith of the Durham Police Department replies:
Specifically I am rebutting Dr. Gary Slade, who serves as professor and director of the Oral Epidemiology Ph.D. program at the UNC School of Dentistry. Gary was quoted in the aforementioned article alongside myself, making the most blatantly fallacious comments about the reality of this issue that reading them literally took my breath away.
In talking with the article’s author, Dr. Slade said the following which printed in your publication June 18:

“If Orange County was to remove fluoride from the drinking water, that would mean that a bunch of people would have no choice in a certain aspect of their health because it’s pretty much impossible to buy bottled fluoridated water,”
This was breathtaking because never before had I considered that I would hear a pro-fluoride argument using the same ethical logic as an anti-fluoride argument. How Slade was able to confuse and flip-flop the moral high-ground on this issue I am unsure, but I would bet money that his employer UNC has a few ethics 101 courses he could take which would point this out to him.
In case extracurricular learning does not fit into Slade’s schedule allow me, an amateur academic by comparison, explain;
The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill first began medicating the water supply with fluoride in Orange County by fiat in approximately 1964.
In 1977, the bureaucratic Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) was formed and given control of our public water supply. They stubbornly continue pouring medicine into our water up to present day.
Fluoridation as a policy originated in the US Public Health “Service,” an arm of the Federal Security Agency who’s head at the time was Oscar Ewing, an ex-lawyer for the Aluminum Company of America
In 1953 Oscar Ewing retired to Chapel Hill and helped set up the Research Triangle Corporation
The Research Triangle Corporation gives money to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
One should wonder what influence Oscar Ewing had within the public health department of UNC who first began fluoridating Orange County’s water
In reality, the people living in OWASA’s public water district never had a choice about this – especially those born after the practice began
To assert that the cessation of water fluoridation, which was decided by none of us, is “removing choice” is simply logic that is absolutely dead-on-arrival.
Fluoride is an additive costing taxpayers in excess of $100,000/year. It is added by the government without the consent of the governed; why does Gary pretend it is anything less? If the city government & overzealous quacks like Slade were not so intent on medicating our drinking water, it would only contain tracelevels of Calcium Fluoride, depending on geography, which is completely different than the fertilizer waste product hydrofluorosilicic acid purchased and administered by OWASA to drug all of Chapel Hill.
By the way, most of this information can be gleaned from OWASA’s own documents, made publicly available on their website.
Since fluoridation is a public policy done to us, the citizens, one who becomes aware of the water “treatment” can only ask questions after the fact. If those questions lead you to doubt the efficacy of public water fluoridation, what are your choices? This is a key question Slade completely fails to ask himself since the answer is yet again, the opposite of the reality he is trying to project.
Why can’t Slade acknowledge that one could easily add fluoride to their non-medicated tap water if they wanted to? Like all medicine doesn’t this make the most sense? Slade also makes the wrong assumption that he and the government are the ultimate authority on what is healthy or not, shouldn’t that be left to the individual to decide? Gary implies in his statement that we all consent and agree to the stated benefits of fluoridation, when it is abundantly clear that we do not!
Slade and others of his ilk believe this is not a decision you are able to make for yourself, he would rather the government make that decision for you. This is stunning for a doctor to admit in such a public manner, since an ethical doctor would uphold the right of all individuals to consent to what medicine is (or is not) added to their own drinking water.
Slade’s health claims regarding fluoride only further confirm my assertion that fluoride is a drug and therefore illegally added to our drinking water. How does Slade reconcile that it has its own national drug code # 68032-383, is regulated by the FDA, and requires a prescription for dosages lower than the dose administered by OWASA per 1 liter of Orange County Public Water? Doesn’t Slade know it’s against the law to administer medicine without a proper license? Slade’s lack of knowledge on these most basic realities of the issue are exposed even further when he expands on the ridiculous notion that finding fluoridated bottled water would be “pretty much impossible” and the apparent main concern of OWASA customers, should they suddenly discover that OWASA stopped medicating their water supply.
He said later,
“Someone can currently buy bottled water without fluoride, or they can put a filter on that is able to remove fluoride. If fluoride is taken out of the water, the opposite does not apply.”
This type of logic is typical of tyrannical government servants and medical “authorities” who believe freedom of choice means one of two things;
you are free to remove the medicine they forcefully add to the public water
free to purchase bottled water without fluoride
Does that sound like a free choice to you? None of these options are “free,” especially in consideration of the below:
1) It is incredibly easy to find bottled water that is fluoridated already. Is Slade not aware that most bottled water originates from municipal water sources which in the United States, are fluoridated more than 80% of the time?
By contrast it is actually much harder to find truly non-fluoridated bottled water. Further to my point – many companies strangely advertise the addition of fluoride to their bottled water. You may have seen this at grocery stores called “Nursey Water.” It is marketed to unsuspecting mothers- a fact I find incredibly disturbing. For Slade to suggest that fluoridated bottled water is even close to impossible to find is generously speaking, ignorant hyperbole.

To illustrate this here is a list of major bottled water brands who admit fluoride is added to their product, a fact you would not be able to discern by looking at their bottle alone:
2) It is cost prohibitive to filter out the medicine added to your tap water which in a painfully ironic way, ends up hurting worst the same class of citizens public health do-gooders are claiming to help. I know this myself, since I have had to spend more than $400 on equipment required to remove the medicine and contaminants lovingly added by Durham, a cost many would not bear.
The frustrating thing about fluorosilicic acid is that a cheap Britta filter will not remove it whatsoever, which makes access to the correct filters legitimately impossible for some. The only way I have discovered over the long term to remove FSA from my tap water is with steam distillation, a time & energy consuming process that removes the water from heavier elements contained in the tap water. Unfortunately, distillation still does not even solve the problem of showering in the highly corrosive hydrofluorosilicic acid, which is absorbed through your skin & accumulates in your bones over time.
It should be lucid by now, but these are not options. The citizens pay for and have the right to a public utility, water, without medication being added to it by force. How this is not evident to a professed doctor, Gary Slade, is something I hope he will be able to explain after reading this.
In closing I would just like to say that since becoming an anti-fluoride activist it has been a most curious phenomenon to witness – that many of the most rabid pro water fluoridationists like Slade are dentists, even though one might expect that if fluoride worked as claimed it would put them out of business. With this in mind it was no surprise to me that Gary Slade, a dentist who teaches public health at the UNC school of dentistry, was published promoting the forced medication of all of Chapel Hill. At least in Orange County it is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Slade’s employer, the citizens have to thank for their medicated tap water in the first place.
Hopefully this adds some valuable color to Slade’s comments which will help your readership understand their illogicality and offensively spurious nature.
A discussion taking place on the subpage “Dentists Against Fluoride” caught my eye recently which I found to be intellectually yielding. I felt the discourse between “Kyle” and Steve Slott, an admitted pro-fluoridationist, would also be educational for others who are interested in this topic but might not have seen it with it being buried in the comment section on a less prominent page.
This discussion elaborates on the official justification our government uses to add Hydrofluorosilicic acid to our water supply which I have contended vehemently since the inception of our site. Below I have copied in succinct order the banter between two very different points of view and made its own post.
Judge for yourself which argument makes the most sense and don’t hesitate to comment on the page to weigh in.

Applying fluoride topically is in no way detrimental to your over all health. All fluorides used are anthropogenic meaning man made, and they are not even man made purposefully as they are by products of industry. Hazardous by-products that that, literally they must be disposed of properly as industrial waste, but this is avoided when the compounds are sold privately where like magic they become a product: a fake tooth medicine. Fluoride including natures natural fluoride CaF2 is not an essential nutrient meaning you can go your entire life without it. If you want good teeth then avoid acidic foods and drinks, or when in contact with any acidic foods rinse with or drink regular water as fast as you can which will save you from mineralization.

I suppose that “Kyle” is serious when he authoritatively makes the ridiculous statement that all fluorides used are man made? The hydrofluorosillic acid, refined and diluted for use in water fluoridation systems, is extracted from naturally occurring phosphorite rock in a wet process that also yields phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is further refined to be used in fertilizers that are utilized to grow our foods, in soft drinks, and other uses. The HFA and phosphoric acid are co-products of the same process. A “fake tooth medicine”? Well, the first thing I would ask of “Kyle” is that he support this equally ridiculous statement with scientifically accepted studies. As for his advice on how to obtain “good teeth” I would ask that he produce his dental credentials and license to practice dentistry. I would then advise him to contact an attorney to assess his liability for dispensing dental advice under the guise of being authoritative.

Why I stated HFSA or other silicofluorides to be a fake tooth medicine is because they have actually never been tested. The actual fluoride products used in artificial water fluoridation have neither the required animal studies nor the required human studies to determine safety. In the absence of these safety studies, any claims that these products are “safe” are false and misleading. Additionally I say fake tooth medicine because fluoride does not prevent cavities, and rather than typing why I’d prefer to copy and paste as to explain it better and not waste time on replying to your hatred:
“(ref 4) Tooth enamel (essentially calcium phosphate) reacts with all acids to form cavities (see any chemistry text dealing with solubilities). The proton of the acid pulls the phosphate right out of the enamel, and fast. By drinking a sip of water along with the acid during eating, the acid reacts chemically with water immediately to form hydronium ion and thus the enamel is saved. One can use milk or coffee for the same purpose, since they are both non-acidic. Dr. Albert Schatz, Nobelist who discovered streptomycin, found several decades ago that sharks’ teeth with their excessive fluoride would dissolve just as readily in citric acid as ordinary non-fluoridated teeth, laying to rest the hypothesis that fluoride would stop cavities. The dental people (American Dental Association) pushed aside this discovery and Dr. Schatz’ discoveries regarding excessive baby mortalities caused by fluoridation in Chili, South America as insignificant. They returned his mail 3x unopened and would not deal with him.”
As for you saying I make comments “authoritatively”, honestly I’m just trying to ensure that people not be mass medicated and especially not done so without proper warnings. For years warnings have existed that infants not have their formulas made up with fluoridated water and what average person knows that? You label me “authoritative” for wanting to place and end to AWF while promoters like yourself literally shove a medication and poison down peoples throats an in a method which the chemical is absolutely unavoidable! And you want to call me authoritative? Get a hold of yourself Steve, and please look in the mirror.
As for my advice on how to obtain good teeth I stated the short and sweet summary of what Dr. Gerard F. Judd, Ph.D., Chemistry and Fluoride Researcher covers in his book Good Teeth, Birth to Death. And honestly while you ridicule me, dentists continue to promote fluoridation when in fact they have no say in the matter. Dentists see teeth, not the body, and what is fluoride exposed to in AWF? Every cell of the human body of course. We know fluoride devastates the thyroid, and what do dentists know about the thyroid? Nor do they know anything in toxicology, risk assessment, the bones, the brain, the pineal gland and so much more.

Tuesday March 5, 2013 marked my 7th attempt to encourage the Raleigh City Council to abandon the forced medication of the water supply with hazardous toxic waste products. If one were to obtain and analyze the Certificate of Analysis (fluoride), provided at request by your local water department as required by law, there is an excellent chance that you could trace the chain of custody for the toxic waste added to your water much as I did. In the case of the City of Raleigh the hexafluorosilicic acid, lead, arsenic, and other compounds which are purchased in bulk and added to the water supply under the term “fluoridation,” come from a company, with local offices in Waxhaw, NC, called Key Chemical, Inc. The folks at Key Chemical obtain the toxic waste of PCS Phosphate Company, Inc. PCS Phosphate is the Aurora, NC mining facility/subsidiary of the world’s largest phosphate mining company, Potash Corporation.
While only $173,000 of the multi-billion dollar annual budget of the City of Raleigh is spent on the toxic waste they add to the water, the health effects (if ever properly assessed) could easily exceed the City’s budget. The City of Raleigh hides behind the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control, and other agencies well-known for the open-door policy between themselves and big business. Those agencies, associations, and organizations that support one another in an effort to diminish, undermine, and even ridicule the valid scientific evidence of harm from fluorides conjoin with government to ensure that the toxic waste of megalithic corporations are sold as a product instead of disposed of as a toxic waste. Thus, the City of Raleigh, and any municipality fluoridating the water supply are stewards of big business’s bottom line and not of the health of your teeth. Fluoridation is a criminal scheme that ensures the availability of revenue-generating filtration systems for the toxic waste of companies like, Potash Corporation. The filter is YOU!
When exploring the links between big business and government in regards to toxic waste disposal, one begins to notice the obvious interconnectivity of large-scale initiatives with local government and big business. Locally, here in North Carolina, PCS Phosphate’s mining operation threatens a $1billion per year fishing industry (on the Albemarle-Pamlico Sound). PCS Phosphate has even pushed for and received permission from the North Carolina Division of Water Quality to begin the “largest destruction of wetlands in the state’s history.” That permit is being challenged by the Southern Environmental Law Center http://www.southernenvironment.org/cases/pcs_phosphate_mine . The fact that government would permit such wanton destruction while, simultaneously, claiming to be stewards of the environment is laughable, at best.
Just so we are all up to speed, we have a Raleigh City Council that hides behind the NCDHHS in order to put toxic waste in the water, a phosphate mining company that hides behind the NCDWQ in order to destroy a larger swath of North Carolina’s coastal wetlands than has ever occurred in history, and a foreign company (Potash Corporation) that seems to have the power to make rational people accept these atrocities. Could there be a larger connection?

One wonders what is sustainable about putting Potash Corporation’s toxic waste in the water produced by the City of Raleigh? This is a question that can only be answered by those advocating or protecting the policy, and as can be seen from the video of myself asking that question, the Raleigh City Council just aren’t talking.
However, the question of why the Raleigh City Council can claim stewardship and protection of the environment as their mission while, simultaneously, dumping toxic waste in the water can be answered simply by reading their Mission Statement and then analyzing their associations.
Potash Corporation and the City of Raleigh are interconnected through the United Nations Agenda 21. After all, Raleigh is a 21st Century City and a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. Potash Corporation is a member of the Global Mining Initiative, which developed an action plan with the International Institute of Environment and Development. That UN Agenda 21 action plan is to be implemented by the International Council on Mining and Metals. The United Nations Environment Programme International Fertilizer Industry Association publication, “Environmental Aspects of Phosphate and Potash Mining,” makes it quite clear on page 9 http://www.elaw.org/system/files/PotashMining.pdf .
The UN Agenda 21 local action plan is to be implemented through the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), of which the City of Raleigh is a dues paying member and from which, in violation of the Constitution of the United States, the City of Raleigh receives her marching orders in terms of land use, smart growth, urban growth boundaries, and numerous other public policies… including water. Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution makes it illegal for any state or local official to enter any “Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation.” ICLEI’s mandate is “to build an active and committed municipal membership of local spheres of government (local and regional governments and authorities) as well as international, regional, national and sub-national local government associations.” Thus, membership in ICLEI serves as an unconstitutional alliance under Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution.
What could make your local governing body violate the United States Constitution while knowingly poison its citizens? What could make your state government agencies, chartered to protect the environment and resources, allow to occur the largest destruction of coastal wetlands in state history? What could provide the cover for big business and government collusion to proceed unchecked with destruction of the environment and the poisoning of human beings? What could possibly sell all of those absurdities as a legitimate push for environmental consciousness? The fascists at the United Nations, the fascists in business, and the fascists in your local government.

This Monday three appeals court justices in Tacoma, Washington will hear cases for and against fluoridation of the public water supply.
Those in opposition to water fluoridation point out that those in support claim fluoridated water is promoted as tooth decay prevention, thus fluoride should be recognized as a drug, (any substance used with intent to treat or prevent disease) and protected drug laws should apply. At this time the government does not consider it a drug.
As more citizens begin to question the safety of fluoridated water, the EPA has had to recently admit that the amount in the water supply is dangerous to children. A Harvard study recently linked fluoride to lower IQ’s but was quickly changed to say that “IQ’s were only lowered outside the United States.” The West Virginia University Rural Health Research Center recently reported that U.S. children in urban areas, with a higher exposure to fluoridated dental care and water, have just as many cavities as less fluoride-exposed rural children. A study by Dr. Dean Burk, former head of the Cytochemistry Section at the National Cancer Institute and Yiamouyiannis, showed a massive cancer increase in areas who received water fluoridation.
Many countries like Sweden, Germany, Finland and the Netherlands have discontinued water fluoridation and several areas within the United States are following suit. A recent hidden camera video inside a water treatment facility has pushed the anti-fluoridation movement even further with its attempts to remove the substance from the water. Just last year citizens in Wichita, Kansas and Pulaski, New York joined the more than 130 communities across the country to ban water fluoridation.
